About David

As Bayleys National Director – Building Consultancy, David Guy leads a team with unparalleled experience, capable of delivering outstanding results. The team’s insight and advice helps corporate clients of all sizes to maximise the return on their property assets and spot opportunities that others might miss.

David originally hails from Scotland and became a New Zealand citizen in 2017. He holds a BSc in Building Surveying and is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. His previous positions prior to real estate include Managing Director of Building Consultancy at Colliers in New Zealand and Director of Building Consultancy at CBRE in Scotland.

A market leader in the property sector with a long track record of delivering outstanding results for his clients, David has a true passion for the built environment. He founded the Building Surveying Paper that is part of the Bachelor of Property at The University of Auckland. This has been instrumental in the growth of Building Surveying in New Zealand and several of his former students are now clients. He also employed and mentored one of his former students who became the very first New Zealander to become an RICS qualified Chartered Building Surveyor.

David has been in real estate around 30 years and his keen business and property instincts are invaluable to the Bayleys Building Consultancy Team’s clients. He combines a strong commercial sense with a robust work ethic (he is always first in the office and last to leave) and the ability to think laterally to identify fantastic returns. David readily embraces technology to provide better, more accurate and faster advice. He specialises in technical due diligence, a major growth area with significant benefits for clients.

Outside of work David plays interclub at Kohimarama Tennis Club and is passionate about snow sports and cycling. He’s also an amateur pilot and is currently working towards obtaining his private pilot’s license at Ardmore Aero Club. David is a keen supporter of charitable organisations that benefit the community including ‘So They Can’, which empowers communities to end poverty through education and economic development. He is proud to have raised thousands of dollars for them and even more proud of the positive effect he knows this will have on people’s lives.
