The Landing is a 1.8ha waterfront parcel. It is envisaged as the social hub of Hobsonville Point with a mix of residential, retail, hospitality, niche commercial and community uses. The role it would fulfil for the community can be likened to the iconic Auckland waterfront meeting places of Mission Bay or Devonport. The Landing already serves as the departure point for a commuter ferry service to the CBD from a new wharf. A popular Farmers Market in a repurposed hangar attracts up to 8,000 visitors a weekend.
The Landing is currently a mix of aviation and WWII heritage buildings, and open space. With a plan change ninety per cent complete (in draft) the developer will work with Hobsonville Land Company to finalise the application and ensure a zoning that supports their desired development outcomes. Most of the heritage buildings will need to be retained and repurposed. Over half of the land can be developed for new buildings, possibly as high as 10 storeys in places. The Landing has consent for a 40-berth marina, which a developer may choose to take advantage of. Hobsonville Land Company is prepared to work in a development partnership to ensure the right outcomes are achieved for the last remaining undeveloped piece of genuine waterfront on Auckland's upper harbour.
